Mary Lou Retton is an American retired gymnast.

She is best known for winning a gold medal in the individual all-around competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Retton was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, on January 24, 1968. She began gymnastics at the age of four and began training with Bela Karolyi in 1983.
